Navigating Success: Introducing Athletica's Calendar Sync Feature for Optimal Training

Hello Reader,

Mastering the delicate balance between work, family, and training is no small feat—it's an art that every age-group athlete aspires to perfect. In the pursuit of this equilibrium, the key lies in finding the right balance and maximizing every aspect of our lives, from training and racing to recovery and nutrition. Our goal is clear: make the most of the precious hours in our days and weeks.

Recognizing that training consistency alongside adequate recovery is paramount for any athlete's success, effective preparation and meticulous planning become crucial elements in the larger scheme of things. Once the plan is in place, a dedicated commitment to its execution is all that remains, alongside the wisdom and common sense of your context in any given moment.

Enter Athletica's latest breakthrough: Training Session Calendar Sync. This much-anticipated feature, is now ready for a full-scale release. You can now take your training to the next level by syncing your goals seamlessly with your schedule.

You can find your personal Athletica calendar sync URL under Settings/Profile/Plan Settings. A web search for "subscribe to a calendar in [iCal/Google/Outlook/etc] with url" will bring up easy instructions to add Athletica to your personal calendar.

Here's what it looks like in a Google Calendar:

Here are a few things to note:

  • The sessions appear as all day events and are not changeable from within your calendar app
  • The session details can be viewed within your calendar app
  • Only the current and next week are shown in your calendar app
  • Changes made in Athletica will take some time to sync to your calendar app. iCal and Outlook allow you to change the refresh frequency, but Google does not.

As a bonus feature, if you are using Google Calendar, you can opt to receive a first thing in the morning email highlighting the workout for the day.

We hope that this feature helps you achieve the goal of training consistency, allowing you to plan your training life around your personal life. As a reminder always, listen to your body and be wary of your context before attempting any session, even when its written in your calendar.

Yours in health and fitness,

Paul Laursen, PhD

Hello Reader You can now train with the same science-backed readiness system just validated in Scientific Reports. By tracking HRV, resting heart rate, and well-being together, Athletica helps you know when to push, when to hold, and when to rest—just like the world’s best endurance labs. That’s exactly the readiness triad we’ve been operationalising in Athletica for years, built on Dan Plews’ PhD work and a long line of studies showing how autonomic markers and subjective status can steer...

Hello Reader, On May 19, 2021 I published a simple piece: “Why Athletica.” It laid out a hope. That science, thoughtfully encoded, could help everyday athletes train well, stay healthy, and perform. Today that hope feels a little surreal. Luke Evans, a Toronto-based engineer who started triathlon five years ago, recently used Athletica to self-coach his way to the overall win at IRONMAN Canada–Ottawa (8:40:22). Below are the podcast, the deep-dive blog, and the principles behind the...
